Star Wars Fans Shocked to Learn A Droid Was Named After Kobe Bryant in The Clone Wars. As family, friends, and fans mourn the loss of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna (Gigi), 6 other passengers and the pilot in a helicopter accident just outside Los Angeles, CA on Sunday, January 26, 2020, many mourners around the world have been sharing their experiences online with the famed basketball player.
One detail that has peeked the interest of Star Wars fans was the appearance of a droid that previously appeared in an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This special droid was created as a tribute to Kobe long before his passing, but fans are just now discovering this little known fact.
The droid was aptly named: K2-B4, in honor of Kobe Bryant, #24 of the L.A. Lakers at the time of his retirement from basketball in 2016. Though the droid appears briefly within the series, K2-B4 also appears in the colors of the Lakers, Royal Purple and Yellow.
We are saddened by the news of the tragic accident and our deepest condolence go out to the families, friends, and fans affected by the events of this crash. We hope fans enjoy this little known fact in wake of this tragedy.
