Disney-Sony Are Scheduled to Meet Next Week Regarding Spider-Man’s Future. The future of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has been up in the air as initial negotiations went south and it was believed Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would no longer be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Since news of the spilt broke, fans have been in an uproar about Holland’s potential removal from the MCU. Fans have been torn between siding with Disney or Sony, with both sides saying that Disney and Sony were acting selfish and not caring about what the fans of Spider-Man want or deserve.
It seems that the outcry has not gone unheard and both Disney and Sony have agreed to meet at an undisclosed time next week to discuss the future of Spider-Man and believe outcomes “look positive”. More than likely we can expect to hear news regarding a new agreement at that time.
From the sounds of it, Disney is looking to make a higher percentage of profits from the films in the MCU and Sony wants Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to make appearances in Venom 2 and Venom 3, and possibly other Spider-Man projects.
No matter the outcome, Tom Holland and Kevin Feige have shared their gratitude about their time working together to bring 5 films with Spider-Man to the MCU.
“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” Holland shared. “It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”
“I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy,” Feige explained to Entertainment Weekly. “We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”
Sony also released a formal statement a few days after news of the split dropped, and a noticeable dip in stocks for the company and investors became concerned about the future of the studio [Sony].
“Much of [the] news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film. We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”
What do you think of the Disney-Sony split? Do you think it’s the end-all-be-all, or do you think they will be able to find a solution that both parties will be happy with? Would you boycott Sony and Sony Pictures if they pull Spider-Man from the MCU? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
