SeaWorld Entertainment has appointed former Carnival Cruise Line COO, Gustavo Antorcha, as their new Chief Executive Officer. Gus will take over the position formerly held by Joel Manby, effective February 18th, 2019.
Antorcha states that he’s excited by SeaWorld’s growing commitment to wildlife conservation and hopes to continue trending in that direction as he takes on his new position. The new CEO stated, “I look forward to working with this talented group to enhance and accelerate these efforts and to help realize the full potential of this business for all stakeholders.”
SeaWorld found itself with a vacancy for the important position after Manby stepped down in February of 2018. This announcement came as the company posted a $20.4 million fourth-quarter net loss for 2017. John T. Reilly was named interim CEO for the remainder of last year. He now returns to his former position as Chief Operating Officer.
SeaWorld has struggled with public perception and declining revenue ever since the release of the documentary “Blackfish” in 2013. The company hopes that it’s renewed interest in wildlife conservation, as well as public education on conservation matters, help save-face.
SeaWorld Entertainment is currently building new headquarters in Orange County, Florida, which will be used for corporate and park employees of their two Florida theme parks.
