AR Costumes- Exciting Innovations from Disney Research- When you have the most amazing designers and Imagineers in the world at your disposal, anything is possible. Disney Research has done it again. AR costumes, Augmented Reality costumes is what we are talking about. Taking the image of a person/actor in plain clothing with digital markers on strategic points on their body, used for positioning and then applying the magic behind the scenes in production to add costuming. Think Iron Man, the amazing red suit. Some of the images in the film involve a physical suit worn by the actor, much of what we see onscreen is added later, in a computer lab.
In plain English- this means developers at Disney Research have created a method to speed up and vastly improve this intensive process. Typically overlaying a CG (computer generated)costume onto a human form involves a tremendous amount of modeling and fine-tuning of the image. With this new proposed technology, there is much less work involved, the costume is applied with greater accuracy and in a shorter time period. Technology is evolving and you can read more here!
