While production has already begun, it looks like there is still some Star Wars: Episode IX casting to be done. This J.J. Abrams directed film still has a mysterious plot, not unlike the other Star Wars franchise films at this stage of production, but we have gotten the scoop on a lot of casting news recently.
The most recently announced new addition is Matt Smith, the former Doctor Who star. He joins newcomers Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, and Naomi Ackie.
THS has reported that casting is underway for a role with the codename “Karina.” They are looking for an actress between the ages of 27 and 35 who is described as “younger Charlize Theron with street smarts.” They are also looking for someone with “a good sense of humor,” so chances are this character will add some comic relief to the film.
As far as this ninth installment of the franchise is concerned it looks like Abrams will have a lot on his plate when it comes to balancing characters and their story arcs. With five new characters added to those that fans have followed for the past two movies spanning several years we’re hoping everyone gets enough screen time to tell a compelling story. If anyone can make that happen, it’s Abrams. He’s no stranger to featuring large, ensemble casts.
No matter what, we cannot wait until this Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019. We will keep you updated with casting news and production details as they unfold. And until then – May the Force be with you!
