Disney•Pixar’s “Coco” was screened at the Morelia International Film Festival this past Friday night. They welcomed director Lee Unkrich, co-director Adrian Molina, producer Darla K. Anderson, and Gael García Bernal, who lends his voice to charming trickster Héctor in both the English-language and the Latin American- and Spanish-language versions of the film. The screening marked the first time the festival opened with an animated movie.

Filmmakers were honored to take part in the opening night of the film festival, sharing how deeply inspired they were by the culture and traditions of the people of Mexico. For “Coco,” they traveled to Mexico City, Oaxaca and Guanajuato, visiting museums and markets, plazas and churches, haciendas and cemeteries. They experienced the beauty and warmth of Mexico’s landscapes and were welcomed into the homes of families in Tlacolula, Tlalixtac, El Tule, San Marcos Tlapazola and Abasolo. Showcasing the importance of family, honoring your ancestors and following your dreams, the film opens in Mexico on Oct. 27, 2017.
