Box Office Numbers of The Jungle Book Exceeds Expectations

The much-anticipated Disney live-action version of “The Jungle Book” was released this weekend. Last year Disney released their first movie that is part of their long list of live-action fairy tale movies, “Cinderella”, which was incredibly successful critically and in the box office.

With much to live up to, “The Jungle Book” delivered, taking the number 1 spot in the weekend box office. The movie made $32.4 million just on Friday alone, and at that point was projected to make about $90 million for the weekend. However, “The Jungle Book” exceeded the projections, grossing a whopping $103.6 million for its opening weekend, one of the highest April openings of all time.

This movie is definitely a success, beating out the domestic opening weekend numbers of last year’s “Cinderella”, which had a $70 million debut. Prior to the U.S.’s opening weekend of “The Jungle Book”, the film had brought in $136.1 million overseas.

After such financial success and the reviews praising the film (you can read ours here), it’s no wonder that director Jon Favreau is already in talks with Walt Disney Studios to do a sequel!
