The Disney Theatrical Production has found a new home for the Broadway musical “Aladdin.”  The popular show currently on stage in New York will be heading to Chicago for a minimum 12 week run, starting in April 2017.  The story of the street rat who finds a magical lamp and is granted three wishes will be on stage at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 W. Randolph St.

The Broadway musical based on the 1992 film opened in March 2014 and is now one of the highest grossing plays in New York.   The Chicago version is based on a story by Chad Beguelin and is very similar to the Disney film.  The production which will be cast, rehearsed and start off in Chicago will include film favorites such as “Friend Like Me,” ”Prince Ali” and “A Whole New World“.

Although Chicago is the first city in North America outside of New York to enjoy the show, London and Australia are getting ready for this year while Toyko and Hamburg productions are already open.

Popular Disney productions which got their start in Chicago include The Lion King, Mary Poppins and High School Musical, adding Aladdin was a popular decision for fans who were in their early teens when the film was released and are now in the mid to late 30s.
