Disney World Firefighters Union Negotiations not Going Well

Disney World firefighters and paramedics have been on the job and working without a contract with Reedy Creek since the start of the year. Because the Union that represents the Disney World Firefighters and Paramedics has reached a no go in their contract negotiations.  The Reedy Creek Firefighters Association Local 2117 and the taxing district (Disney) can not agree on insurance benefits, pay raises, etc. The union wants a 4.7% increase in pay and Reedy Creek only wants to give 3%. The union wants to give less and the employees want more, in quite a few areas of the contract.

Firefighters are also not happy with Reedy Creek’s plans to get rid of the special-operations-and-response team. Members of that team get specialized training on complicated jobs like, rescues from collapsed buildings and detection of chemical agents.

The union is also requesting a specialized type of body scan as part of their annual check ups. Reedy Creek says they are investigating the cost.

Since they can not seem to come to an agreement, a special magistrate is supposed to hear both sides and try to assist but the decision is non binding.
