Waiting for a resort bus at Walt Disney World may soon be made a little easier. A new feature for the My Disney Experience app is currently being tested by Disney and though it is not currently available for guests it should help make planing a bit less frustrating. The app gives an approximate time for bus arrivals at the current location, and it also keeps Disney aware of where delays are happening.
Disney has already been experimenting with wait time screens at a few resorts and this app, in the hands of guests, could save the mouse quite a bit of money by not having to install the screens resort-wide. There is no indication on when or if Disney plans to make this new feature available to guests, but you can bet if it saves money and makes the guest experience easier then its not far off.

At first I thought GREAT IDEA! But then after I read the comment below, I, too, have mixed feelings about being so plugged in. (and trust me, we are a PLUGGED IN FAMILY and love being plugged in, but sheesh!) I’m here right now and the way they do the Fastpasses now, with having to reschedule so far in advance and the $10 per person penalty for canceling a dining reservation, we’ve had the most hectic, run-around, stressful time that we’ve ever had at Disney World. And sometimes the app is super-slow or wackadoodle while in the parks. Changing our fastpasses on our app has resulted in giving us choices for completely unappealing attractions and/or timing that is waaaay off our schedule – the app doesn’t give us a choice to switch back to our previous choice – it just assigns the time without telling us what it’ll be and letting us “confirm” – it just says “you’re all set!” and that’s when you find out when the new time is for the new attraction that you picked. The flexibility is almost none. We were one of the people who “tested” it last year and it wasn’t bad…but that’s because the system wasn’t being used by tens of thousands of other people at the same time – so last year, while we were testing, when we wanted to change our fastpasses time or attraction while in the park, we were able to do so, no problem, because there were fastpasses available. But now, tens of thousands of people are all trying to get the fastpasses, and have done so in advance, so that doesn’t leave much hope for changes when you’re in the park and making decisions based on weather, location, hungry, tired, illness… Pretty much if you don’t use what you planned weeks or months ago, you probably won’t get a good alternative. The kiosks they set up in order to get help or to get additional fast passes after you’ve used all of your Fastpass reservations, well, the lines are LONG AND SLOW. Yesterday we were excited to see a “shorter” line at Animal Kingdom but after waiting in line, we discovered there were no more fast passes available for the things the kids wanted to go on – so the wait was for nothing! So even if you are wiling to wait in a long line, there is no guarantee that you’ll walk away with anything that you wanted. I think the bus app is great – I think it’ll really help. But even though I’ve always been a planner and always made my own spreadsheet itinerary, all this other pre-scheduling every little thing, is making things more stressful and complicated at our favorite place on earth 🙁
It’s about time!
I have very mixed feelings. It is beginning to feel as if I will need to be more plugged in at Disney than I am at home. I LOVE the idea of the screens with the estimated arrival times in the bus waiting areas!
I think it would be a great thing for guests to know when they will make it to their chosen park or resort. I would definitely take advantage of it.
I would love it! If I knew I had time to stop at that last shop outside the gate or a quick bathroom break before getting in the bus line, that’d be great.
We would LOVE that!!!
That would be awesome!!
