Disney has confirmed the Studio Backlot Tour at Disney’s Hollywood Studies will close on September 27 to make room for a new development. The announcement, which came on September 19, only gives guests another 8 days to get one more chance for this attraction.
Included in this new development is to move Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post and expand upon it. Could this mean another Frozen attraction is hitting Disney Parks? Beyond moving the trading post, Disney has provided no other details on the expansion.
The Studio Backlot Tour opened at Hollywood Studios in 1989 and originally was a much larger attraction. Over the years the attraction has been scaled back. In 2008 live tour guides were replaced with automated narration and many of the special effects demonstrations have been scrapped. No word on what will happen to the prop warehouse that makes up a part of the queue, or the large scale props that make up the tour.

I will miss this attraction. Even though in the past few years it has been scaled way back it was always fun to see. We recently toke our 2 yrs old grandson on it and he loved it. Sorry that it won’t be there for our new granddaughter.
In it’s current state – I will not miss it at all. It had become boring. In fact the last time we did it, we were instructed to walk right by the audience interaction part at the ship scene. I guess they were having technical difficulties – so an already scaled back tour was reduced even more. Sometimes I don’t like Disney’s changes, but this one I embrace!
I’ve missed it since they took the backlot out of the tour! We still enjoy it, but it’s really a trip to Catastrophe Canyon, with a bit of special effects at the front. I hope we can swing a quick trip to say goodbye to what’s left. HS is definitely the most poorly planned park at WDW–no room, inside all those thousands of acres!
I will miss it……it’s part of what the studios are all about!
