Hi Ladies and Gents! Anonymouse is back with some Disney on Broadway gossip for you. The Muppets Take Manhattan may be coming to Broadway. What an exciting new venue for Kermit and Miss Piggy!
The New York Post‘s Michael Riedel reports that the Walt Disney Company, which has had the rights to the Muppets since 2004, is “exploring the possibility” of a Muppet musical coming to one of Jujamcyn’s five theaters. With the success of other kid friendly Broadway shows, this might be the perfect move for Disney.
Frank Oz directed The Muppets Take Manhattan, which was the third in a series of live-action musical feature films starring Jim Henson’s Muppets. It was filmed on location in New York City during the summer of 1983. Produced by Henson Associates and TriStar Pictures, the movie featured music by Ralph Burns and Jeff Moss. Cameo appearances by Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster, Ernie and Bert were also featured in the film.
