Ok, it’s no secret that I LOVE LOVE Disney food – they really do an amazing job with everything from the 5 course meals to the popcorn and snack carts and drinks – it’s all delicious. BUT – as with everything at the Disney Parks – the food is not cheap. Keeping your family’s stomachs full while at Disney can be a hard (not to mention costly!) job – everyone is excited, there’s a lot of walking, it’s hot – meltdowns are eminent. Luckily, there are ways you can prepare yourself to help prevent “Disney empty wallet syndrome” – and one that I like to rely on is that I pack my own Park snacks for myself and my family (in my adorable Minnie backpack, of course!). WHY is this a good idea you might ask? Well – it saves money, it’s convenient, and a time saver, and if you bring your own snacks you know exactly what is in them (a good plan for health conscious or allergy aware folks!). So what snacks do I like to bring? Read on to find out…
Fruit Snacks/Dried Fruit – Dried fruit is great – much lighter than fresh fruit, and smaller, and usually comes in resealable packages as well. You can find a wide assortment of fruits at most grocery stores (I like banana chips, and dried cherries!), and since they don’t take up much space they are easy to toss in your suitcase while you’re packing for Disney. They are a great on the go snack that will give you a sugar boost to help get you through a long day of touring, with the added benefit of the vitamins and minerals found in fresh fruit! Fruit snacks are great too – they come in individual packages so they are easy to hand out to the kids, and you can usually find cute Disney ones at the grocery store too!
Frozen Bottles Of Water – Obviously you want to stay super hydrated while at the Parks – the heat and walking will do you in for sure if you don’t keep chugging water throughout the day! I like to freeze individual disposable water bottles (courtesy of my Disney Resort mini fridge of course!) and then pack them wrapped in paper towels and placed in gallon size Ziploc baggies when I go to the Parks – this helps minimize possible leakage, and they will stay cold for most of the day too! You can also bring some crystal light/kool-aid drink packets along, in case you or someone in your family aren’t crazy about drinking tons of plain water – they are small and can be found in tons of flavors at the store, so it’s easy to bring everyone’s preferred flavor along to the Parks
Granola Bars– A great fast breakfast while you’re on the way to the Parks, and they make a great in between meal snack too. Plus these days there are SO MANY varieties to pick from – fruit, nut, chocolate, gluten free, dairy free, low fat, whole grain, high protein – there are types out there to fit literally every dietary need and taste bud. Personally, I prefer the Quaker Chewy line of granola bars – they are small, cheap, come in a ton of flavors, and if they get crushed in your bag they are generally still edible (thanks to the “chewy” factor they stay together pretty well)
Hard Candies – You will always find assorted mints and fruit candies in my bag – as they are great for a lot of things – a quick sugar pick me up, a breath freshener, a tide-me-over through this super long line treat, and they are small and impervious to the Florida heat (well, mostly anyway). You can get a wide assortment of flavors (including sugar free varieties) at most stores , so I highly recommend you stock up on these for your next Disney trip
Trail Mix – The perfect mid-day energy boost – and the best part is you can customize it any way you want! You can buy nuts, dried fruits, granola, etc and mix together your perfect blend of flavors. Or, there are plenty of pre-mixed varieties out there too (places like Trader Joe’s have some great ones!). I like kinds that combine fruit and nuts – the proteins and sugars will keep you going ride after ride! It’s a relatively small snack that won’t take up much space in your bag, but can be invaluable when it comes to helping keep your family full and focused
You can always bring these or any other snacks from home, or order them to be delivered when you arrive at your WDW Resort through a service like Garden Grocer. These are just my personal favorites, I love that they are small and save me from spending excess money on snacks at the Parks – but I know there are plenty of other great options out there too – so I would love to hear YOUR thoughts – what snacks do you bring along when touring the Disney Parks?
