British Virgin Islands Signs a Deal with Disney Cruise Line

On Friday The British Virgin Islands signed an agreement with Norwegian Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line to help boost their cruise tourism.

These 2 major Cruise Lines have promised to deliver a total of 425,000 passengers yearly beginning in 2015 for the next 15 years or pay for lost tax revenues if the numbers are not met.

The deal also gives preferential berthing to both cruise lines. Last year, that company delivered 53,000 passengers to the territory of only 30,000 residents.

Officials blame the decrease partly on an existing dock that can’t accommodate larger ships.

The government said this deal may help them get the money to make the dock bigger. The bidding process to select a contractor is still going on and construction is expected to start in upcoming months.
