Two members of the creative team behind some of the most successful animated films by Disney Pixar will speak to Inspiration Behind the Design at the 17th AutoWeek Design Forum.
Brad Lewis and Jay Shuster anchor a day of design insight and inspiration and will talk about their work on CARS 2, due in theaters in summer 2011.
“CARS proved not only to be a design tour de force, but it became a cultural icon, an instant classic,” said Dutch Mandel, AutoWeek associate publisher and editorial director. “CARS 2 will take the franchise to the next level, and we have two of the creative geniuses behind it.”
Lewis joined Pixar Animation Studios in November 2001, bringing with him 20 years of film, theater, television and advertising production expertise. Lewis was the producer of Disney Pixar’s Academy Award®-winning film Ratatouille and is currently directing CARS 2, scheduled for a June 24, 2011, release.
Shuster arrived at Pixar in 2002 as a sketch artist, contributing character and environment designs to John Lasseter’s 2006 film CARS and to Andrew Stanton’s WALL-E in 2008. Shuster is currently art-directing Disney Pixar’s sequel to CARS.
The AW Design Forum is a chance for enthusiasts, students and designers to learn about the latest design trends and to network within their field of interest. The event also allows attendees to visit the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) before the general public. The forum will be held on Jan. 13, 2011, at the College for Creative Studies A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education in Detroit, Mich., from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Rounding out the list of speakers is:
- Michael Warsaw, Vice President, Industrial Design & Marketing, Johnson Controls
- Philip Lunn, Chairman, PixelMags; CEO, Bunkspeed
- Frank Stephenson, Design Director, McLaren
As with all AW Design Forums, the Inspiration Behind the Design topic will celebrate design as the ultimate differentiating factor among products, the catalyst of passion and the primary force that drives consumers’ interest and purchase decisions. The event features a continental breakfast, individual morning presentations, design exhibits, networking opportunities, a strolling lunch and afternoon tours of the North American International Auto Show.
The AutoWeek Editors’ Choice Awards, presented during the Design Forum, will recognize the 2011 NAIAS Best in Show, Most Fun, Most Significant and Best Concept vehicles.
Advance registration for the half-day program is $150, all-inclusive. The deadline for online registration is Monday, Jan. 4, 2011. Limited on-site registration will be available during the Design Forum at $200 per person.
The event is sponsored by Johnson Controls, Microsoft and the College for Creative Studies, in association with the NAIAS.
