I have talked about how great Fort Wilderness is, and it’s a place I spent many happy vacations as a kid. One thing that wasn’t so great about those vacation was the two days we spent in the car each way as we towed our camper from Upstate NY to Disney and back. Do I understand why my parents did it? Of COURSE – it was a HUGE money saver, as we didn’t have to pay for airfare and could eat many of our meals at the campsite, and the cost of renting a campsite is nothing compared to that of a resort or hotel.
While I was on those vacations, I always wondered what it would be like to stay in one of the Fort Wilderness Cabins – a great alternative to those who want a ‘home away from home’ but don’t want to tow their camper across the country to get it.
So what’s so great about the Fort Wilderness Cabins?
- They comfortably sleep up to 6 people between a fold-out murphy bed in the living room that sleeps two, and a bedroom with a double bed and a set of bunk beds that would be perfect for the kids (or the kids and grandparents!)
- Each Cabin features a full bathroom, which may not seem very impressive to those who normally stay in hotels where every room has a bathroom, but when you’re camping, a full on site bathroom is a big deal! Many campers don’t have this, and it’s much more convenient than running to the public campground bathroom, especially if you are traveling with little ones!
- There’s a full kitchen in every Cabin, which includes a full size fridge, electric stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker and toaster for appliances, and also comes with all the cookware/pots and pans/silverware/plates/cups/utensils, and cleaning supplies you will need. The dining room table seats 6, and you can actually save a lot of money by cooking at your campsite. Utilize the charcoal grill and private patio for a picnic, or take advantage of the kitchen. Food is available on site at the Fort Wilderness stores, or just a short car ride away if you have a rental car (and the food at the grocery stores off WDW property is a LOT cheaper), or you can have your groceries delivered through gardengrocer.com. The best part is – you don’t even have to wash your own dishes – the “Mousekeeping” will do them for you when they make their daily rounds
- That “Homey” Feeling – Many people hate being away from the comforts of home and aren’t a huge fan of taking vacations where you stay in a small hotel room. The Cabins are perfect for these people and for anyone and everyone who wants to enjoy a place where they have enough space to spread out, relax, and get to enjoy those little routines that make your home life so cozy.
- The Price is a real value – the Cost of the Cabins ranges from $280-$450 a night (depending on what time of year you are traveling to WDW), and of you’re splitting the cost between two couples/two families and utilizing the kitchen to cook some of your meals, you can really save a lot of money on your vacation!
The best thing about the Cabins (in my opinion) is that you’re getting all the perks of camping, without really having to “rough it”. PLUS toy have access to all that is amazing about Fort Wilderness, like the dining options (a buffet style meal awaits at Trail’s End, while a hoot of a good time can be had nightly at the Hoop De Doo Revue), the recreation options which include boat/bike rentals, nightly campfires with Chip N’ Dale, Swimming pools and playgrounds, jogging/biking trails, and much more, and its location can’t be beat – its secluded and tranquil, but is just a quick boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom
Fort Wilderness has it all, and the Cabins make a great addition to the WDW Resort lineup. What do you think – Have you checked out the Cabins? Would you stay there?
