Back before Sega was famous for their Sonic the Hedgehog character, they had licensed Mickey Mouse from Disney for the side scrolling adventure game ‘Castle of Illusion’. The game became very popular, enough to warrant two sequels called ‘Land of Illusion’ and ‘Quackshot’. Sega lost the rights years ago, but it appears Disney may have some renewed interest in the gaming series.
It appears that Disney has just filed a trademark for ‘Castle of Illusion’, specifically for anything revolving around any video game disc, cartridges, and software. Things like this are unusual when they’re aimed so specifically at a certain type of media. So is Disney looking to do a remake on the next generation consoles? Or could they be looking to do a digital re-release of the original games on the new consoles? I don’t know, but I’m sort of hoping that they’re moving towards remaking the title, because I think it would be great to take the game to whole new levels on the new systems. What do you guys think? Would you be interested in a new version of the game, or are you hoping it’ll be a digital release of the original game? Sound off in the comments below.
