2nd 2017 Quarterly Report Released for Orlando Theme Park Injuries

Florida theme parks are required to report any ride-related injuries or illnesses that result in an immediate hospital stay of at least 24 hours. Reporting any injuries keeps the parks exempt from major inspections. The 2017 2nd quarter report is in and the numbers are as follows…

Walt Disney World Resort saw eleven injuries:

  • On April 8th at Castaway Creek a 57 years-old female guest with a pre-existing condition experienced stroke-like symptoms.
  • April 20th a 34 years-old female had irritation in her eye on Animal Kingdom‘s Expedition Everest.
  • On April 22nd, a 59 years-old female guest complained  of feeling ill after riding Big Thunder Mountain, she had pre-existing conditions.
  • A 70 years-old male guest riding Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, on April 26th, complained of arm and shoulder pain, as well as dizziness.
  • May 10th a 44 years-old female complained of stomach pain after riding Big Thunder Mountain.
  • While riding Seven Dwarfs Mine Train on May 14th, a 48 years-old female guest suffered a seizure, she had a pre-existing condition.
  • On June 10th, a 50 years-old female riding Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, complained of feeling ill afterwards.
  • A 19 years-old female guest with a pre-existing condition suffered a seizure riding Kilimanjaro Safaris.
  • On June 12th a 79 years-old female guest fell ill after riding Flight of Passage, she had a pre-existing condition.
  • On June 15th an 81 years-old male with pre-existing condition reported feeling faint and dizzy after riding Rock “n” Roller Coaster.
  • A 31 years-old female guest felt dizzy, ill, and suffered a brief loss of consciousness riding Flight of Passage

Four injuries were reported from Universal Orlando:


  • On April 16th an 81 years-old female reported motion sickness after riding Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.
  • A 18 years-old female riding Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts on April 28th, complained of motion sickness.
  • On May 27th a 45 years-old male suffered back pain after riding the Kala Serpentine Body Slide.
  • A 47 years-old female fainted riding The Incredible Hulk Coaster on June 20th.

Sea World had two reported injuries:

  • No official injury reported for an incident with a 5 years-old male, Aquatica Orlando.
  • A 54 years-old male suffered shock to his arm while on Journey to Atlantis, June 15th.

Legoland and Busch Gardens had no injuries to report. The numbers above show the Orlando area amusement park injuries occurring April – June of 2017. When visiting an amusement park it is always in your best interest to thoroughly read the ride restrictions prior to boarding, they are there for your safety.
