The 25th Anniversary Screening of “The Little Mermaid” and Ariel red carpet event was held in Burbank last weekend as part of the Burbank International Film Festival.  Jeff Rector, Director of the Burbank International Film Festival shared “We are extremely honored and excited to be screening this timeless Disney classic that most children have never before seen on the big screen in a theatrical environment.”

As part of the promotion for the screening, an Ariel look-a-like contest was held with the winners announced before the screening began.   Contestants – from little ones to the more mature Ariels from all over the world submitted their photos.  The winners, one adult and one child were announced before the beginning of the movie – with bragging rights going to Mariel Martin, from Tijuana, Mexico (adult) and young Skyler  (child) from Orange County, California.

Mariel Martin (dressed as Mermaid Ariel) shared that she, along with her sister, Yolani (dressed as Vanessa – human Ursula), have been dressing up as Ariel and other Disney princesses since a very young age.  Thanks to family members that were make up artists and models, dressing up was the norm around their house.

Winner and ten year old, Skyler is a veteran at dressing up and attending events.  She was excited to win and happy to be able to watch “The Little Mermaid” on the big screen.

Marissa Leon was spot on dressed as the purple, Ursula. Marissa who follows, Chip and Co, has a website as well called “petite leon” with her Disney costumes available for rent or sale.

And cute little, Miley Romero was Ariel’s daughter, Melody.  There were several other Ariels and a little Prince Eric to round out the group of look-a-likes.

As part of the entertainment, The Burbank International Film Festival, brought in their very own, Ariel look a like, Traci Hines and her Prince Eric, Leo Camacho.  Traci an up and coming pop star, has been performing for kids and adults since 2008.  She has done original characters for modeling gigs and party and convention appearances. and even has her own line of clothing called “Adorkable Apparel” (available online)

Leo Camacho, talked about how he met and started out as Prince Eric for Traci’s video and things just took off from there.  Now he regularly appears with Traci in events.  He enjoys dressing up as Prince Eric and for my grand daughters and I, he was a true prince.

Watching “The Little Mermaid”, Disney’s story of Ariel who falls in love with Prince Eric and dreams about living life on land, was a great experience.  It brought back all the excitement and energy the movie has to offer and allowed my grand daughters and the other little ones in the audience, to see Ursula, Ariel and all the other lovable characters in all their glory on the big screen.
