Excitement filled the air recently when 100 teenagers were informed they have been selected to be a part of this year’s Disney Dreamers Academy. The teens along with a parent or guardian have been invited to the Walt Disney World Resort for the inspirational and motivating conference. The participants will spend their time surrounded by positivity and encouragement to follow and work toward achieving their dreams. Described as life-changing, this year’s weekend is scheduled for March 21-24, 2019.
During the days of the academy, the Dreamers are inspired to give 100 percent in order to “Be100” and “all in”. The event focuses on three different aspects of life and career success. These aspects include making the most of opportunities, pursuing dreams, and making a difference in others lives. During the all-expensive paid trip the Dreamers will participate in workshops geared towards career goals, gain perspective in networking, communication, and leadership, and hear advice and stories from notable speakers. In the past, speakers have included both celebrities and professional athletes among others. The four Walt Disney World theme parks make the perfect backdrop and serve as an example of how following your dreams and hard work can pay off.
This is the 12th year of the inspiring conference hosted by Steve Harvey and ESSENCE Magazine. Each year thousands of applications are received, with 100 participants chosen for that year’s academy. The participants are between 13 and 19 years old and must be high school students. Once completing the Academy the 2019 class will have gained valuable life skills and will enjoy the benefits of being connected with an alumni network boasting over 1,000 members.
