Walt Disney World Refurbishment Schedule for May 2018

Refurbishment May

In order to keep rides running smoothly and safely and resorts looking their best, Disney World often needs to close areas in order to perform maintenance on them or give them a fresh look. As much as we don’t like it when our favorite rides aren’t running, maintenance is necessary to keep guests safe during their park visits.  Here is a list of the rides, attractions, and resorts at the Walt Disney World Resort undergoing refurbishment in May 2018 and beyond:

PARKS:

Magic Kingdom


  • Liberty Square Riverboat – Closed from Jan. 8 – TBD
  • Monorail – The Walt Disney World® Resort Monorail System is undergoing refurbishment and may be on modified service and/or routes. If Guests plan to use this form or transportation during their visit they should check to be sure of the best option available on their day of travel, as alternative transportation options will be available. This is ongoing until further notice.

EPCOT

  • Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe – Closed from Feb. 26, 2018 – TBD

Hollywood Studios

  • Toy Story Mania – Queue reconfiguration work. FastPasses will not be available during this time. – Apr. 9 – May 7, 2018
    • ****Please note that Disney’s Guest Services told us that FastPasses would not be available until after June 30th****

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

  • Festival of the Lion King – Closed May 9, 2018

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park

  • None

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park

  • None

RESORTS:

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

  • Rooms Refurbishment: Through Early 2019
    During this time, it is possible that Guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am. In addition, the feature pool, Fantasia Pool, will be available. All dining and merchandise locations will remain in full operation.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

  • Disney Skyliner: Ongoing until further notice
    We have embarked on creating a new transportation system, Disney Skyliner, which will give Guests a bird’s-eye view of Walt Disney World Resort while traveling via gondolas. During this time construction noise may be seen or heard throughout the resort, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9am.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge & Villas

  • Jambo House – Payment Policy Pilot: Feb. 12, 2018 – TBD
    Beginning February 12, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House will participate in a pilot where transactions will be handled with convenient, cash-free options. All purchases and services at the resort will accept MagicBands, credit cards, debit cards, Disney Gift Cards, Disney Rewards Redemption Cards and contactless payments such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay.
  • Children’s Activity Centers – Closing Permanently: August 1, 2018
    July 31, 2018 will be the last day of operation for the Children’s Activity Centers. Kid’s Nite Out will remain available for Guests looking for a child or babysitter service.

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn & Villas

  • Ongoing until further notice – In an effort to make future visits more magical, Disney’s BoardWalk Inn & Villas is currently undergoing some refurbishment projects across the Resort. During this time, the Resort will be in full operation with all amenities available, including dining, merchandise and recreation locations. It is possible that construction may be seen or heard, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am.
  • Children’s Activity Centers – Closing Permanently: August 1, 2018
    July 31, 2018 will be the last day of operation for the Children’s Activity Centers. Kid’s Nite Out will remain available for Guests looking for a child or babysitter service.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

  • Old Port Royale Food Court, Shutters at Old Port Royale, Cabana Pool Bar and Calypso Trading Post: Ongoing until further notice
    • There will be a variety of dining options available for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
      • Centertown, a dining location, will serve an all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet for breakfast and dinner.
      • A selection of grab-and-go meals will be conveniently available for purchase in three island markets located in the Aruba, Jamaica and Martinique regions of the Resort.
      • Additional a la carte offerings will be available at mobile food vending locations.
      • In-room dining will remain available including pizza, sandwiches and pasta.
      • Disney dining plans will be accepted.
      • Every effort will be made to assist with dietary needs.
    • The feature pool-Fuentes del Morro Pool – and leisure pools will all remain available. Recreation activities and entertainment will also be available.
    • In addition to the amenities unavailable at Old Port Royale, buildings within Martinique and Barbados islands are unavailable to Guests.
    • During this time construction noise may be seen or heard throughout the resort, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9am.
  • Disney Skyliner: Ongoing until further notice
    We have embarked on creating a new transportation system, Disney Skyliner, which will give Guests a bird’s-eye view of Walt Disney World Resort while traveling via gondolas. During this time construction noise may be seen or heard throughout the resort, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9am.

    It is possible construction may be seen or heard, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am.

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

  • Hard Goods Refurbishment: Through Summer 2019
    During this time, amenities including dining and merchandise locations, pools, La Vida Health Club with the spa and salon, and recreation activities such as beach volleyball, Iguana Arcade, Movies Under the Stars and more, will remain available. Please note that noise will be heard while our Resort is undergoing refurbishments, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms prior to 9:00am daily.
  • Pool Refurbishments: 
    During this time, it is possible that Guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am.

Disney’s Old Key West Resort

  • Room Refurbishments: Through Spring 2019
    Guests may see or hear work in progress and certain pathways may be unavailable. During this time, the Resort will be in full operation with all amenities available including dining and merchandise locations, pools, and recreation activities. It is possible that construction may be seen or heard, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00 am.
  • Turtle Pond Pool: April – Early July 2018
    Turtle Pond Pool, Turtle Shack Snack Bar and Flying Fish Gameroom will be unavailable due to refurbishment. During this time, it is possible that Guests may see construction. In addition, Sandcastle Pool, featuring a waterslide, kiddie pool and a variety of dining and recreation locations, will be available.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

  • Children’s Activity Centers – Closing Permanently: August 1, 2018
    July 31, 2018 will be the last day of operation for the Children’s Activity Centers. Kid’s Nite Out will remain available for Guests looking for a child or babysitter service.

Disney’s Pop Century Resort

  • Room Refurbishments: Through Summer 2018
    During this time, Guests may see or hear work in progress and certain pathways may be unavailable. To minimize disruptions, we will attempt to limit all work until after 9:00 a.m. daily.
  • Bowling Pool: May 2018
    Bowling Pool will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, it is possible that Guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am. In addition, Hippy Dippy Pool will be available. All dining and merchandise locations will remain in full operation.
  • Disney Skyliner: Ongoing until further notice
    We have embarked on creating a new transportation system, Disney Skyliner, which will give Guests a bird’s-eye view of Walt Disney World Resort while traveling via gondolas. During this time construction noise may be seen or heard throughout the resort, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9am.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

  • Room Refurbishments: Through Summer 2018
    During this room refurbishment, it is possible that Guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am. All amenities including dining, merchandise and recreation locations will be available.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside 

  • Pool Refurbishments: Through Fall 2018
    One of the Alligator Bayou leisure pools will be closed for refurbishment, but the feature pool, Ol’ Man Island, and four other leisure pools will be available. During this time, it is possible that Guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am. All dining and merchandise locations will remain in full operation.
  • Room Refurbishments: Through Early 2019
    During this room refurbishment, it is possible that Guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am. All dining and merchandise locations will remain in full operation.

Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts
Disney’s Beach Club Villas

  • Children’s Activity Centers – Closing Permanently: August 1, 2018

Disney Springs

  • Portobello Country Italian Trattoria – Closed Apr. 23 – TDB
    • reopening as Terralina Crafted Italian

ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

  • Roadwork: Ongoing until further notice
    Intermittent overnight lane closures, lane shifts, traffic congestion and noise impacts can be expected along Osceola Parkway / Victory Way.
