I am unapologetically a geek… I tend to be an early adaptor of most technology, I love to share it with others and I will feel my life has been fulfilled once I have my own Jarvis… So I was pretty darn excited to see that Starbucks will virtually connect their Downtown Disney World store to their Downtown Disneyland Store via interactive touch screens. The screens will display at their counterpart store a chalk display of the environment and people in the area of the screen. Obviously broadcasting full on crystal clear images would make some hesitant.
Disney and Starbucks often speak of themselves as creative, people oriented businesses. This new way of storytelling with their customers from one side of the United States to the other is a living example of two innovative companies working together to bring their guests a new, unique and exciting experience.
As I read through the description on Starbucks Website I thought this could be so cool for opposite coast families. They can go into their Disney Starbucks Store on their own coast, hook up to the free wifi and video chat with each other. Or now they can create their own chalk outlines of their environments and themselves to have a fun whimsical moment together. What about doing that with a stranger as well? Since your a chalk outline and not a picture of yourself you’ll retain some anonymity, but perhaps you’ll make a great new friend too?
As one of those who used to ask consistently why two great companies like Disney and Starbucks hadn’t partnered together, I was jumping with joy when the first Starbucks at Disney was announced and am now thankful to hear that at least an additional 5 stores will be joining them.
So the only question is, which Disney Downtown do you want to visit first? Let’s get you there to experience this awesome technology right away!
