The Walt Disney Company hosted the 11th annual Central Florida Urban League Youth Leadership Summit this past Saturday at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. The conference focused on engaging and empowering 170 students to become positive leaders in their school and communities while focusing on topics relevant to today’s urban youth.
This year’s summit included inspirational sessions stressing the importance of family, having a positive outlook on life, taking advantage of today’s opportunities, and planning for the future. “The Soulstice”, an aspiring rap group consisting of four talented, college educated young men, gave a performance of three motivational songs all self-written and produced. Orange County Police were also in attendance speaking about issues in the community.
”The Central Florida Urban League is once again pleased to partner with Walt Disney World Resort in celebrating the young leaders of our community. Through this committed partnership, we continue to spread the magic and inspire children to believe in themselves and dream of a bright future,” said Allie L. Braswell, Jr., President & CEO of Central Florida Urban League.
The Walt Disney Company has hosted the event since its inception in 2001. As part of our ongoing dedication to corporate citizenship we strive to inspire kids, parents, employees, and communities to make a lasting, positive change in the world. For this reason, this initiative is well aligned with our company principles. “The summit was a great success in encouraging students to be proactive and responsible in planning for their future education and career. At such a developmental time in their lives, it is important that we prepare our students to make positive life choices,” said Eugene Campbell, Vice President of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Domestic Minority Business Development.
The Central Florida Urban League is one of 100 affiliates of the National Urban League, which is the largest and oldest community-based organization in the U.S.A. serving 2 million persons annually. The affiliate, which has been providing services to Central Floridians for over 29 years, has served about 300,000 persons in the areas of housing, workforce development and youth. The Central Florida Urban League is a 501 (c)(3) organization.
