Is the Tron Coaster from Shanghai Disneyland coming to Walt Disney World?

Hey there guys and gals it is I, Anonymouse back with some Disney World Gossip!

A little mouse recently told me the popular Tron Lightcycle Power Run from Disneyland Shanghai might be coming to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. The rumor circulating suggests that the coaster would end up replacing the Tomorrowland Speedway. The Speedway has been a staple of Walt Disney World since it opened in 1971 but is way past it’s prime and definitely not “futuristic.” Also adding fuel to this fire is the Speedway experience has recently been “rolled over” in the Hong Kong and Tokyo Disneyland parks and re-branded in Disneyland California as Autopia.

Not so fast though… It was just a few months ago that we were hearing the Tron coaster was coming to Epcot. Finding a place for it go there would seem like a daunting task though. They could knock down the Wonders of Life Pavilion or even Mission: Space. However, knocking down Mission: Space seems highly unlikely at this point with the announcement of it’s upcoming refurbishment.  Also, what about Test Track? Riding Test Track and Tron would be kind of like deja vu.

Guests want thrill and need speed. So, the demand is there for sure. Let’s face it: there’s not much thrill or speed coming from the current Tommorowland Speedway attraction. Putting the most popular attraction at any overseas Disney park, would definitely give guests what the thrill and speed they are wanting. Also, what about the environment? Those smelly cars at the Speedway can’t be doing anything good for it!

What do you think? Would you like to see the addition of the Tron coaster? Or, would you hate to say farewell to the Tomorrowland Speedway?

As always, nothing is official until the Mouse himself confirms it. Stay tuned!

Anonymouse searches the internet, annoys cast members, and wouldn’t think twice about using a Ouija board to find you the freshest Disney Gossip. Some of what she’ll report is confirmed, some is based on information from the rumor mill, and some, frankly, she just read on the bathroom wall in Fantasyland. So take it with a grain of salt and have fun!

  1. Disneyland didn’t re-brand their Speedway as Autopia. It already was Autopia. It just has a new sponsor. I hope they can find somewhere else to put Tron, besides Tomorrowland Speedway. Kids love it. And that smell is part of the kids getting to feel like they’re driving a real car. My son drove some Autopia type of cars at Gilroy Gardens, recently, and the biggest reason he didn’t care as much for them, was the missing engine smell and sound. Re-theming them to the Cars movie would probably be a good idea. Taking it away, completely, would not.

  2. Not cool , need to replace speedway with cars ride. Tron should be where wonders of life was at Epcot
