Have you ever talked with someone who is still fresh with the “post Disney glow” only to realize that they missed out on some pretty amazing Disney Stuff?  I’m always shocked when they didn’t even realize such a thing existed! I have a couple of spots that I always hit, no matter what and it is really hard for me to understand how anyone could pass them up!  These personal favorites may not seem like much to everyone, but these are my top picks for overlooked and underestimated, Magic Kingdom edition.

Main Street USA Train Station

I have a 3 year-old nephew who is crazy for trains.  I’ll take that back, he’s crazy for anything that moves- engines, wheels, tracks, steering wheels, axles  he does them all!  So, you can bet that we do our fair share of time on the Walt Disney World Railroad.  For our family, the  train is a must.  Sadly, I will say that I often find myself hurrying through the Main Street USA Train Station in an attempt to board for a scenic tour around the Magic Kingdom.  There are some really neat things in that station, including functioning mutoscopes (moving picture show), historical sights, a wonderful resting spot/parade viewing spot, and of course a beautiful shot of Cinderella Castle and Main Street USA.  Take a little time and enjoy what the Main Street USA train station has to offer.

Swiss Family Robinson Tree House

Okay, so I’m sure some of you are thinking like I think…how could you miss the Swiss Family Tree House?  I’m right there with you!  I always stop by when I hear that infectious Swisskapolka tune!  As impossible as it may seem,  I actually think that this beloved tree can sometimes get lost in the shuffle.  Perhaps it’s the distraction created by the lure of Dole Whips at Aloha Isle?  Maybe guests are zooming straight for the more popular attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean?  Maybe it’s the camouflaged effect of the tree’s craftsmanship?   Maybe it’s because typically this is a walk on type of attraction with little to no wait?  No matter what the source might be, this attraction is often neglected.  I love the charm of the story and the feel of the attraction.  As a little girl, I was always intrigued by the ingenuity of this shipwrecked family (who are we kidding, I am still mesmerized by this fictional tale)!  I simply can’t skip taking the grand tour and you shouldn’t either!

Liberty Square River Boat

Proud Mary ain’t got nothin’ on the Liberty Belle!  Okay, that is probably a little skewed since I’ve never been on the Proud Mary and I’ve got Disney fever.  I really like taking a turn on the Liberty Square River Boat!  I like that you get 17 minutes of forced slow down time as you ride the river and listen to Mark Twain.  Where else can you take a journey back in time as you as you roll on by a Native American camp, Tom Sawyer’s Island, and of course great views of the park?  I think you should take a trip on a river boat!

Club 626

There is something about the pop beats and line dance songs that draws me into this outdoor club!  I adore Tomorrowland’s outdoor dance club, Club 626.  Located near Space Mountain and the Carousel of Progress, this club is sure to get you moving !  Be sure to spice up your night with with the musical and dance stylings of a live DJ/VJ and characters like Stitch, Pluto, Goofy, and Chip and Dale!  Club 626 isn’t open for dancing every night, so keep your eyes and ears peeled next time you are in the parks and swing by if you hear the party!  I promise that you’ll enjoy the fun.

Main Street Vehicles

Okay, so two of the five rides/attractions/spaces I’ve listed are located on Main Street USA.  I think it makes sense that much of Main Street USA is overlooked as we walk hurriedly through to get to the rides.  I could literally spend all day talking about what Main Street USA has to offer (aside from a shops and a pathway), but today I’m just focusing on 2 of the overlooked attractions.  And in this point, I’m talking about the Main Street Vehicles.  If you’ve never taken the horse-drawn trolley down Main Street USA,  you my friend are missing out.  There is really nothing like watching rope drop and hitting the trolley first thing in the morning.  The sights and sounds of Main Street USA come to life as you make your way toward the castle!   It really does take you to another time!  Main Street USA really does have a lot to offer!  Slow things down and enjoy the hidden details.

I hope that this list will act as a launching post for you as you head into the parks.  What are you missing?  What do you rally for that most pass by?  Let us know in the comment section!

Thanks for reading and commenting!  See ya real soon!

  1. I’m going to take your advice and take a trolley on my next trip to wdw. Time to slow down and enjoy the ambiance.

  2. I’d like to say Tom Sawyer Island…but I’ve never been on it! I try every time I go, but somehow always end up on the river boat…not that I’m complaining because the pictures from the boat are some of the best that I’ve gotten!

  3. I ALWAYS go on Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover!!!! This past Jan during marathon weekend Space Mountain broke down and they turned the lights on as I was inside!! I had to go around a second time 🙂 Also, I have to stop at Norway at EPCOT to renew my supply of Laila! And I am ALWAYS on the hunt for Hidden Mickeys, and now with my new app, it is much more fun!!
