Back in December, I reported that Disney had begun to develop a sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 film, ‘Alice in Wonderland’. At the time, all we know about the film was that Linda Wooverton would return to write the sequel, but there was no word on whether Tim Burton would be back to direct. Word on the sequel had gone quiet since the announcement, with many speculating that Disney was in early negotiations with Burton to return for the sequel. For fans of Burton, they’ll be sad to hear he won’t be returning to direct ‘Alice in Wonderland 2’. That’s no reason to fret though, because word is that there is a very suitable replacement eyeing the director’s chair for the new film, and the film is working under a new title.

Director James Bobin, who directed Disney’s ‘The Muppets’, which saw the triumphant return of the Jim Henson clan on the big screen. Bobin is in the middle of  work his Muppets sequel, ‘The Muppets…Again’, which is slated for release on March 21, 2014, and the idea sounds like once Bobin’s work finishes on the film, he’ll turn his sights on Wonderland. The new Alice film is currently working under the title ‘Alice in Wonderland: Into the Looking Glass’. We’re still waiting on reports to see which actors will once again go down the rabbit hole, but with Disney’s great working relationship with Johnny Depp, I’d say there is a very good chance that he’ll once again return as the Mad Hatter, and I’m sure we’ll see Mia Wasikowska return to play the title role of Alice as well. I’m very excited to by the idea of Bobin taking on Wonderland, I think he could bring something very fun and whimsical to the film, so I really hope he takes the job.

  1. I think it sounds horrible. Tim Burton’s film already mixed both Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass together. And not to mention Alice is 7 and half in both stories why should Disney make a sequel? Shouldn’t Alice be a little too old (at 20 or 18 years of age Burtons film) to be dreaming of unrealistic worlds.
