A Relaxing Evening at Walt Disney World – Tambu Lounge

A Relaxing Evening at Walt Disney World - Tambu Lounge

Walt Disney World IS the very best vacation a person can take, in my opinion.  It is so fun and an on the go vacation.  But sometimes enough is enough and you and your family could really use a break from being over walked and over stimulated inside the theme parks! No worries – you can have a wonderful relaxing evening on Walt Disney property and still feel immersed in the Disney spirit! You never know, it could end up being your very favorite evening on vacation!

When I need a break from the Parks in the evenings, there is only one place I turn to.  I load up my crew and journey to the Tambu Lounge on the second floor of the Polynesian Resort!  The second you hit the lobby of the Polynesian Resort you already feel like you have escaped into a relaxing resort oasis.  It looks and smells tropical!

The Tambu Lounge is a tropical oasis on the second floor right by the Kona Cafe and OHana‘s.  That does mean this area can get quite crowded in the evenings, however that’s something I like about it!  People flowing in and out of the lounge is really fun, everyone is in a great mood and I love talking to other people on vacation!  There is bar seating and tables and chairs scattered throughout the area.  Come and sit as long as you would like!  There is a flat screen tv showing ESPN, which the guys love and another tv playing the Disney Channel, which the kiddos love!

The Tambu Lounge has a full bar menu and does serve up some light appetizers!  The Tambu Lounge is probably best known for its signature drink the Lapu Lapu served to you in a full pineapple! They go through 12 dozen pineapples a night I am told, just on this drink!  Be prepared to share, this drink is highly alcoholic and I can say from personal experience the room was spinning! Another fun beverage at the Tambu Lounge is the Backscratcher, complete with a long wooden backscratcher as your stirrer! So fun!  There is also plenty of beverages served up virgin style and my little girl loves getting a Shirley Temple topped off with an umbrella.

If you time it just right, you will be able to see Wishes Nighttime Spectacular from the lounge, and that is the best part! They lower the lights and play the theme music and you have a perfect view of the firework show from your comfy seat with a drink and snacks in hand!

You are welcome to sit and relax for as long as you want! The Tambu lounge opens at 1:00pm and closes at 12:00am.  I have been known to arrive around 5 and not leave until 10:30-11 it is really that much fun! If you are looking to relax and still have a great time check it out! I think you will like it as much as I do!

  1. I have a great story about the Tambu Lounge. On the last night of our trip “home” in May 2011, my DH & I went to the TL so I could finally have my first Lapu Lapu. Francisco, our bartender, announced they were “out of Lapu Lapus”. Imagine my disappointment. DH said “Oh, no. She came 1,000 miles to have one of those”. Francisco said MAYBE he could find one back in the kitchen. He left & returned with 2 beautiful pineapples wrapped in plastic. I told him I loved him and proceeded to enjoy my first, but definitely not my last, Lapu Lapu.
