Princess Elena from Disney Channel’s “Elena of Avalor” will begin making character appearances at Walt Disney World Resort beginning in August and at Disney California Adventure this fall. The ballgown Elena will wear in the animated series was recently unveiled and will also serve as the inspiration for her upcoming meet and greet at the Disney parks.
The beautiful dress was designed by Layana Aguilar, a contestant from “Project Runway” and “Project Runway All Stars.” The designer was born and raised in Brazil and wanted to create a dress that represented all of the rich and colorful cultures and folklore from Latin America.
“Designing a dress for a Disney princess is a dream come true for me and the proudest moment of my career so far. And as a mother, I am so excited to introduce my kids to ‘Elena of Avalor,’” said Layana.
Elena of Avalor will premiere on the Disney Channel this summer and is an animated spin-off series of the popular Disney Junior show, “Sofia the First.” Elena will be Disney’s first Latina Princess.
