Shutters also located in Old Port Royale, is the resort’s restaurant. The food is pretty good here if you are staying at the resort, but not quite good enough to take the trip out here to give it a go. Since this is a moderate resort you won’t find easy walking access or any boat, monorail, or other transportation. The only way to get here is by car or bus, and the buses circle around this rather large resort so you may find yourself having to leave over an hour of transportation time.
That being said, the service is great and it is a nice stop for people staying here, especially since this resort is so large and exapansive. It is worth taking a half day to enjoy the Caribbean beaches and the newly renovated pool! The food is Caribbean, fitting in with the theme of the resort, lots of Jerk spiced food and fruit-infused dishes. You might find ribs, steaks, mahi mahi, and some chicken dishes on the menu. It’s important to remember that Shutters is open for dinner only, and reservations are a good idea.
If you want to try Caribbean flavored food while at Disney, then Shutters is for you. Shutters is also part of the Disney Dining Plan, and will cost you one table service credit. You can find their full menu HERE.
Overall, we give this restaurant a “B+”.
Shutters offers a sit down Dining experience inside the Caribbean Beach Resort food court. We were able to get seated within 20 minutes of making a walk up request. Positives are the food quality. We started with the Chorizo-Black Bean Appetizers, (Black Beans simmered with Chorizo Sausage garnished with Lime Cream and Chives) which was wonderful! For me, this was enough for a meal without needing to order anything more! I had the bone in pork, which was very well seasoned! My husband had the New York Strip Steak, which he said was very tender and flavorful! The quantity of food was more than enough for us. My daughter had the Cheese Pizza Kids Meal, which came with seasonal fruit (water melon in our case) and a drink. She loved the fact it came on a Mickey Mouse plate, but was very sad the pate was not a take home!
Service was non pressure, but always readily available when you needed anything. All the Cast members working were friendly and easy to understand.
Drawbacks: this restaurant tends to get loud making conversations difficult on a busy night. Lighting is slightly lowered, so if there are vision issues, reading the menu can be difficult. (Tip: They have larger print menu’s available upon request).
Overall I would recommend this restaurant to friends going to the Walt Disney World area. While it has kids meals, it would make a better adult escape meal than family based, in my opinion.
