This weekend, the story of an amazing journey will play out at the Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. San Diego resident Hayley Brown, a plane crash survivor, will participate in the Disney Two-Course Challenge at the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend presented by MISFIT™ (Nov. 4-5) at Walt Disney World Resort.
In June of 2012, at the age of 18, Brown, who was traveling to volunteer at a medical clinic in Sinaloa, Mexico, was in a plane crash. The four-seat Cessna plane she was in hit a power line and when the wing of the plane was ripped off, the plane crashed into a river.
Brown survived the plane crash but as a result had internal injuries, lacerations, broken bones, and a head injury that required her to be placed in a medically induced coma for a week.
After her three month recovery, during which time she missed her high school graduation, Brown was able to return to school and her normal life with the help of running.
Five years later, at the age of 23, Brown has run an ultramarathon, three marathons and countless half marathons, and now she will run in the 10K and half marathon races this weekend at Disney.
She will join more than 35,000 runners for the 8th annual Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. This weekend includes runDisney Kids Races, 5K, 10K, half marathon races and the runDisney Health and Fitness Expo which includes the new Interactive Zone with Disney character meet and greets, yoga for runners, games and much more.
