The Muppets Most Wanted Movie Media Screening was held on Saturday, March 15th.    Walking into the elegant lobby of El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California, the first thing one sees is a glass case with Miss Piggy’s beautiful wedding gown and shoes.   After a few pictures and with the movie about to begin, I secured my seat and got ready to see if Miss Piggy and Kermit would end up tying the knot.

Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted begins where the last Muppets movie ended.  The gang is singing, dancing  and celebrating their return to fame.   After the opening number “We’re doing a sequel”, the Muppets meet Dominic Badguy (Ricky Gervais) who posing as a tour manager convinces the gang to go on tour in Europe. The scenes shift to Union Station in Los Angeles, where they are seen boarding a train that will magically transport them to several European destinations including Berlin, Madrid and my favorite, London.

Meanwhile, Kermit Look-a-like “Constantine” – Number One Criminal has escaped from prison and finds a way to switch places with and replace Kermit in the Muppets show.    With Kermit mistaken for Constantine, arrested and out of the way,  Constantine, along with his Number Two, fake tour manager Dominic Badguy (Rickey Gervais) perform a series of robberies, with the grand finale being the Crown Jewels.   Hot on the trail of the criminals are Jean Pierre Napoleon (Ty Burrell), a laid-back Interpol agent, and Sam Eagle, a slightly more driven CIA agent who after a rocky start, end up becoming the best of pals.  Kermit has his hands full helping prison guard, Nayda (Tina Fey) put together the annual prison review show.  Nayda who appears to be a tough, no nonsense guard, has developed a crush on Kermit.    While Constantine, in an attempt to keep the Muppets busy, agrees to all the crazy show ideas, the Muppets and Number Two come up with, including proposing and marrying Miss Piggy.   Animal, Fozzy and Walter discover Constantine’s true identify and race against time to find and help Kermit escape.  Will Kermit make it on time to stop the wedding of the year?  Muppets Most Wanted combination of music and comedy, romance and action come together perfectly and make it the next Disney hit movie.

Some of my favorite musical movie moments included, Tina Fey, Josh Groban and fellow prison mates performing “The Big House”  and the gang performing the opening number “We’re doing a sequel”  complete with top hats, canes, 65 dancers and synchronized swimmers with cameos by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett was remeniscent of the Broadway shows.  And not to be left out, the ballad written just for Miss Piggy and Celine Dion “Something So Right” highlighted Miss Piggy at her best.

Muppets Most Wanted movie cameos included many favorites:   Danny Trejo, Tom Hiddleston, Celine Dion, Salma Hayek, Sean Combs, Christoph Waltz, Ross Lynch, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Josh Groban, Ray Liotta, and Usher.  All new songs from Oscar winner Bret McKenzie, and Composer Christophe Beck in charge of the Score along with Choreographer Francesca Jaynes taking care of the dancing, added to the magic.

Several key movie props were displayed in the lower level of the theatre after the movie and provided the opportunity for a closer look at the Miss Piggy’s wardrobe and  Animal’s drum set.

Produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, Directed by James Bobin and written by James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller,  Muppets Most Wanted is rated PG and comes out in theatres, March 21, 2014.
