ZOMBIES DVD Review

The Zombie craze has made its way to the World of Disney and I have exciting news! Disney’s ZOMBIES will be released tomorrow on DVD. I received an early copy and I wanted to share my thoughts. The Disney Channel’s newest original movie ZOMBIES is another toe-tapping teenage musical similar to its successful predecessors such as Descendents and High School Musical but definitely with an original spin.

The plot is set 50 years after a nuclear power plant explodes creating a zombie apocalypse. Scientific advancement has figured out a way for zombies and humans to co-exist but that doesn’t mean social conflict doesn’t still rear its ugly head. Zed, the zombie with aspirations of joining the high school football team, and Addison the perky human cheerleader join forces to bring Seabrook High School (and ultimately the town) together to find harmony.

The movie has many similarities to Descendants in that it depicts the “outsiders” being allowed to join the local high school and following along as they find ways to be accepted. The musical numbers may not be as memorable as in Descendants but they are still catchy and enjoyable. I also really liked the characters especially Zed and Addison who seemed to really have chemistry on screen together.

The film delivers an upbeat way to discuss the difficulties of being an individual even when society seems to value and reward those who assimilate and conform. In the end, I say it’s a no-brainer, grab ZOMBIES on Disney DVD on April 24th!
