What’s so special about Character Dining at Walt Disney World? Why would you spend extra money to see the characters while dining, when the characters are in the park for free? I’ll tell you why…time savings!
We love to go to Disney World in the summer. Epcot has a great Character Spot, where you can see all of Disney’s main characters (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto and others) all at one time. The drawback? Unless you’re willing to forego Soarin’ and Test Track first thing, the lines in the afternoon and evening can be 60-90 minutes! If you have breakfast at Chef Mickey’s (at the Contemporary), you can have the characters all come to your table WHILE you are eating and save tons of time! More time to have fun in the parks! You have to eat anyway, right?
Yes, the breakfasts will cost you more than a quick service dining option, but you get tons of great food AND characters that come to you? Does it get any better? Our family has made a tradition out of going to Chef Mickey’s on our last full day in the parks (sniffle)…why not celebrate with all the characters for one last hurrah?
Other great Character Dining spots are Hollywood and Vine (Disney Playhouse Jr characters) and Cape May Café (at the Beach Club)! Oh, and don’t just think breakfast…some like Chef Mickey’s or 1900 Park Fare (at the Grand Floridian) also have character dinners too!
So, what do you think? Spend 90 minutes in line for characters only or get some great food and have the characters come to you?

This is our traditional “last day” breakfast stop. Got to see Lilo and Stitch before flying off.
Don’t forget about ‘Ohana at the Polynesian resort. They serve a family style breakfast with TONS of food. It is pricey, but really fun. Mikey and Pluto are dressed in Hawaiian gear and Lilo and Stitch are there as well. Also, they do a big “congo line” type of dance where all of the kids are invited to participate. It was a great time, plus Mickey is there!
