Disney Cruise Line Returns to Barcelona for European Cruises

The Disney Magic cruise ship will return to the Port of Barcelona, launching a second and extended season of special Mediterranean and Northern European itineraries, the latest example of Disney’s global expansion in the family cruising market. Starting Saturday, April 24, the ship will sail eight, 10- and 11-night cruises to Spain, Italy and France, providing families with a unique way to see world famous cities throughout Europe.

“We are thrilled to return to Barcelona, and once again call this magnificent city our summer homeport,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line.  “This region of the world holds great appeal for our guests, as we learned during our first voyages here.  That initial success encouraged us to return and offer enhanced itineraries that give our guests the opportunity to combine an authentic European experience with a fun, family-friendly cruise that only Disney can deliver.”

Disney Cruise Line first visited Barcelona during 2007, sailing Mediterranean cruises throughout the summer.  The feedback from guests proved very popular, prompting the company to once again explore this region of the world.

“After a wonderful experience of hosting Disney Cruise Line in our city three years ago, it is a great pleasure for us to welcome them again as their homeport for the summer season,” said Jordi Valls, president of the Port of Barcelona.  “Disney Cruise Line, a state-of-the-art company, has chosen Barcelona, the top European cruise port which houses cutting edge passenger terminals, and I am sure that we will make an excellent team together.  Barcelona and the Mediterranean sea will offer Disney Magic’s guests a unique experience.”

Disney Cruise Line continues to expand its blueprint for family cruising with two new ships currently under construction in Germany.  The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are scheduled to come online in 2011 and 2012, respectively, allowing for more variety of itineraries, including a permanent reposition of the Disney Wonder ship to the West Coast of the U.S., sailing Mexican Riviera and first-ever Alaskan itineraries in 2011.

Based in Celebration, Fla., Disney’s cruise experience is focused on providing a setting where families can reconnect, adults can recharge and kids can immerse themselves in worlds of fantasy only Disney can create.

While booking options are limited for these summer itineraries, guests can learn more about Disney Cruise Line or book a vacation by contacting their travel agent, visiting www.disneycruise.com
