“Coco” For The Win at BAFTA

It’s another win for Pixar! Last night, at the 71st British Academy Film Awards, Pixar’s “Coco” claimed Best Animated Film. This is the seventh year Pixar has been the winner of Best Animated Film since the award’s creation in 2006. Additionally, this is another win for Director Lee Unkrich who’s film “Toy Story 3” won the award in 2010.

“Coco” is centered around the Mexican holiday: Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and follows the story of 12-year old Miguel as he is accidentally transported to the land of the dead.

The film has been highly revered for its story, music, animation and its respect for Mexican culture. “Representation matters. Marginalized people deserve to feel like they belong”, said Unkrich.
