Celebrating Christmas at Disney is a very special treat, indeed!  You can’t help but get into the Christmas spirit when you visit the parks and resorts.  The decorations are beyond compare, the food and treats…spectacular, the parades are magical, and the best part?  Seeing it all with the ones you love.

Here are some of my favorite things when visiting Disney around the holidays.:

mickey

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party – this is a separately ticketed event at the Magic Kingdom that is sure to touch even the biggest Scrooge right in the mushy part of their heart.

Not to miss: The beautiful lights on Cinderella’s Castle.  Magnificent icicles form all over the castle twinkling with magic with one swoosh of the Fairy Godmother’s wand.   Also, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade featuring the “Big Guy” himself – SANTA!  Other wonderful events include Holiday Wishes, a special fireworks show and complimentary cookies and hot cocoa.

Glow

Osborne Family Spectacle of  Dancing Lights  – Now with Glow With The Show!  This is free with park admission every night (you purchase the glowing ears) at Hollywood Studios during the holidays – be sure to treat your family to this amazing decorating feat.  All of the lights are synchronized to music and are hung end to end…just like you would do at home.  Can you imagine what that must take to set up?  Anyone who has ever tried to hang lights outside on their house will truly appreciate this extravaganza!

candlelight processional

Candlelight Processional at Epcot – Join special narrators each night like Whoopie Goldberg, Neil Patrick  Harris, and Sigourney Weaver as they tell the greatest story ever told  at the American Gardens Theater.  Accompanied by a choir and orchestra, this event is a wonderful way to enjoy and share the meaning of the season with your family.

Decorations at the Disney Resorts – No matter which resort you are visiting, you are sure to be dazzled by the decorations at each.  Some of my favorites are: The life- sized Gingerbread House at The Grand Floridian, The Holiday Gazebo at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn made out of gingerbread and chocolate, and the humongous tree at the Contemporary.

Sleigh Ride at Fort Wilderness – Take in the unspoiled beauty of the woodlands surrounding Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and see them as you’ve never seen them before. Your group of up to 4 adults (or 2 adults and 3 small children) will be laughing all the way as you ride in a horse-drawn carriage done up like a sleigh, festooned with festive lights and garlands for the holidays.

Holiday sleigh rides depart from the main entrance of Crockett’s Tavern at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground every 30 minutes and are offered nightly during the month of December. Due to their seasonal nature, reservations are strongly recommended and can be made up to 180 days in advance by calling (407) WDW-PLAY, or (407) 939-7529.

Thinking about visiting Disney for the holidays?  DO IT!  You won’t be disappointed,  just make sure your trip is long enough to take it all in!  You may never spend Christmas anywhere else again.

  1. FYI the sleigh rides that are offered are not free and true to Disney form are quite pricey. 2 Adults/2 children $64 for a 25 minute ride. Just thought you should know.
