It appears that ‘Captain America 2’ has found it’s directors from a very unusual place. Anthony and Joe Russo, best known for their work on NBC’s ‘Community’ and the films ‘You, Me, and Dupree’ and ‘Welcome to Collinwood’ are in final negotiations to take the rains of the sequel to last years Joe Johnston directed film. Not much is known about the plot at this time, but the sequel has been scripted by the first film’s writers Chris Markus and Stephen McFeely, and with Chris Evans reprising his the titular hero. The little we know is that the movie will continue following Steve as he deals with his new life in a new time.
I’m definitely more than a little curious to see Anthony and Joe’s take on the character. ‘Community’ may seem like an odd place to find the duo, but their work on the show has been excellent, and I really think they have what it takes to pull this off. I do wish Johnston was coming back to direct, because he’s an excellent director, and one of my personal favorites, but at this point in the game, after six excellent films, Marvel has definitely earned my trust and I fully agree with whatever choices they make. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this plays out. The film is currently set for an April 4, 2014 opening.
What do you guys think? Are you excited to see Anthony and Joe take their shot with Captain America? Do you wish Joe Johnston was returning to helm? Or do you have someone else in mind you’d like to see take over? Let me know in the comments below, only here at Chip and Co.!
