It was recently announced that Disney will be doing a “Beauty and the Beast” live action movie. The announcement came after the initial success of “Maleficent”.
Bill Condon, who worked on Dreamgirls, will direct the movie. Evan Spiliotopoulos will write the script. That is all we know for now since there has been no casting announcement.
A little background on “the tale as old as time”. It is the 30th film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, the film is based on the fairy tale La Belle et la Bête by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont, (which was based on a more detailed story of the same name and plot, written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve) and uses some ideas from the 1946 film of the same name. The film tells the story of a prince who is transformed into a Beast and a young woman named Belle whom he imprisons in his castle. To become a prince again, the Beast must love Belle and win her love in return, or he will remain a Beast forever.
The original Beauty and the Beast was in theaters in November 1991 and was a massive box office success. The movie earned a total of $424.97 million globally. Beauty and the Beast took home 2 Academy Awards and three Golden Globes.
The next live action Disney movie coming up is Cinderella.
