Walt Disney Studios Live action movies

Walt Disney Studios left CinemaCon attendees wanting more. This year, viewers got a sneak peek at Disney’s live-action movies coming to theatres in 2019.

The three featured films included a glimpse at Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King.

Dumbo

Tim Burton is taking over this animated classic and putting a new spin on it. The storyline will not follow the traditional story of Dumbo learning how to fly, but will tell the story of Dumbo after he has learned how to fly. The “sneak peek” was truly just a peek, as the audience was able to see a still image of the CGI baby Dumbo and also a brief clip just before Dumbo was about to take flight. Actors Colin Farrel, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton and Eva Green will all be starring in this film. Dumbo will arrive in theatres on March 29, 2019.

Aladdin

Aladdin promised audience a film showcasing new music and choreography featuring some familiar faces including Will Smith who will star as the Genie. Smith will be playing the role much differently than the beloved Robin Williams. “No one could replicate what he did, nor would we want that,” said Taff, head of Disney’s distribution. Moviegoers can expect to see a Genie with a “little Fresh Prince, a little Hitch, and a whole lot of attitude.” Movie goers were able to view a clip of Aladdin running along wall-tops and bouncing off canopies in slow-motion. The movie will also feature Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott. Aladdin will hit theatres May 24, 2019.

The Lion King

As far as CGI, guests can expect The Lion King to look better than the rest! Taff said, “as amazing as Jungle Book looked, we’re going to the next level.” The live-action version of this animated favorite promises a shot-for-shot remake with very realistic looking CGI animal characters. CinemaCon attendees were able to see a single scene: the presentation of baby Simba. The Lion King will make it’s theatrical debut on July 19, 2019.
